Consider this your early Christmas gift (just go with it). I mean, I know that a before and after post was pretty much everything you wanted this holiday season and more, so it would clearly be inconsiderate of me to give you anything less.
Today, let's take a look at Steve and Rachel's shot from their maternity session. I originally picked this image because I thought that the after was quite dramatic compared to the original image. When going through their set, this was probably the only image that clearly displayed the sky that evening, which was nothing short of magnificent. While their pose was admittedly nothing to get excited about, I couldn't bear leaving this image out of their collection.
The first thing I did was expose for Rachel and Steve, brightening the entire image. Then I took the brush tool in Lightroom and simply darkened the sky, perhaps adjusting shadows, contrast, and highlights as I saw fit (on the brush tool, mind you). Also, to lessen the line at the horizon I went back in and lightly erased the hard line, increasing the feathering on my brush. To top it off, I made all of my final tonal adjustments which typically involves manipulation of the Tone Curve section in Lightroom.
All of my editing was completed in LR4, and the image was shot on a Canon 5D MKII with the 50mm f/1.2 lens at 1/800, f/2, ISO 400.
Hope you enjoyed this little blip of RWP behind the scenes. :)
Have a very merry Christmas all!
